Its name comes from the fact that in 1908, Braque's landscape paintings were described as "cubes." Rather than expressing space through traditional perspective and shading methods, the attempt to compose the picture plane using geometrically flat shapes freed painters from the Renaissance-era common sense that paintings reproduce reality. did.
