Located in the southwest of France, the renowned port city Bordeaux has nurtured its unique, sophisticated cultures thanks to the wealth given by producing and exporting wine that has boasted the tradition and the quality since the time of Ancient Rome. The city was called “Port de la Lune (port of the moon)” since it was developed in crescent shape along the Garonne near the Arctic Ocean. Its urban development was completed 100 years ahead of that of Paris, boasting the scenic beauty of magnificent classism and neoclassism structures, and its prosperity reached its peak in the 18th century. This exhibition, which has been materialized thanks to the cooperation of the city of Bordeaux, proudly introduces the history and arts of Bordeaux covering from its prehistoric age to the present time. There are a variety of works of renowned artists noted in connection with the city, including Eugene Delacroix, Odilon Redon, and Francisco Jose de Goya. In addition, important historical materials such as “Venus of Laussel” and artifacts that tell us the lifestyle of people of the past are waiting for you. Please enjoy learning the history of Bordeaux with more than 200 exhibits.
