【Tokyo National Museum】 Special Exhibition “Beat of Beauty of Jomon Period 10,000 Years” Press Conference Report

Special exhibition "Beauty Beauty of Jomon Period of 10,000 Years" gathered all the goods nurtured in various parts of the Japanese archipelago from the early Jomon period to the late stage with the theme of "Beauty of Jomon" I admit to the skills and thoughts of the people.

Highlights of this exhibition …

1, National Treasures of Jomon and important cultural assets, large set!
Although the number of ruins of the Jomon period has exceeded 90,000 in number so far, only 6 national treasures among the many Jomon period excavated items. In this exhibition, all of these six items, which can be said to be extreme in shaping, will be gathered for the first time (Tuesday, July 31 – Sunday 2 Sunday).

2, Introducing "beauty of Jomon texture" on an unprecedented scale
The Jomon period continued for about 10,000 years, and it is widely deployed in the Japanese archipelago beyond 3000 km in the east and west. In this exhibition, we will introduce the "beauty of Jomon textile" from its beginning to the end, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, unchanged in size, while keeping the scale feeling of the Jomon period.

3, now the "Jomon" that attracts attention
Dynamic shaping seen in the Jomon period and the clay figure is unique even in the world history. "Jomon beauty" said that Taro Okamoto and others found the artistic value in the 1950s has been attracting attention again in recent years, and the evaluation is increasing. Jomon beauty is becoming familiar to various aspects such as design and fashion, and by discovering "cute" and "interesting" for earthenware and clay, it is becoming more familiar to us through SNS.

The clay whose representation of the face is masked is commonly called a mask asbestos. Among them, this remarkably graceful work is called "the goddess of the mask". This "Masked Goddess" which was excavated from one of the soil groups considered to be a grave is thought to be buried to pray for praying for the dead and regeneration.
