Exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Japan and Finland
The National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, June 18 (Tuesday) to September 23 (Mon. and Congratulations), "The 100th Anniversary of Japan-Finland Diplomatic Relations: A Modern Woman-Female Artists Who Painted Finnish Art" is held.
In Finland in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the independence movement from Russia and the formation of a new nation born in 1917 changed the position and role of women in society. Even in the art world, Finland's first art school, established in the middle of the 19th century, was rare in Europe at the time, and has promoted gender equality art education since its inception. The women of this era were able to develop their career as an artist while gaining scholarships and opportunities to study abroad, while studying in an international environment.
