A special Chinese New Year celebration in Ueno! The spectacular Hokkaido Gangan Yaki is here! “Hokkaido Kaisen Shokudo”

The Uenode Panda Chinese New Year Festival will be held from Friday, January 31st, 2025.

Special gourmet food and stories that can only be enjoyed here await you. This year’s theme is “The bond that connects Hokkaido, Ueno, and China.”

Why Hokkaido in Ueno? A story of connection woven by pandas

Giant pandas “Shin Shin” and “Kei Kei” visited Hakodate during the Aomori-Hakodate Expo in 1988. Through this historic episode, a bond was born between Hokkaido, China, and Japan. Now, in 2025, this special bond will be revived in Ueno, the center of Japan-China exchange, by celebrating the Chinese New Year with Hokkaido delicacies.

Extremely fresh seafood delivered directly from various production areas in Hokkaido is gathered in Ueno!

The bold star of the dish is the “Hokkaido Seafood Gangan Yaki”! Now available in Chinese New Year style!

Hokkaido’s specialty “Seafood Gangan Yaki” will be featured as the main menu item of the Chinese New Year Festival! Fresh seafood that Hokkaido is proud of is steamed and grilled in a one-gallon can with sake sprinkled on it. The Gangan Yaki mainly contains oysters from Akkeshi and Saroma, which give it a rich flavor. You can also enjoy giant snow crab from Funka Bay, rare chestnut crab from Nemuro, plump Hokkaido shrimp, and thick scallops with their meat attached. You can also enjoy rare whelks and surf clams that are rare in the Kanto region.

Chinese-flavored Gangan Yaki will also be available exclusively at this event!

In addition, to add a festive touch befitting the Chinese New Year, we are introducing a new dish called “Chinese-flavored Gangan Yaki” that uses XO sauce and special Chinese seasonings!
