Masterpieces of sculpture from the Heian period to the Kamakura period, such as the statue of the Four Tennos and the statue of the Jizo Bodhisattva, which were made when Rokuharamitsuji was built, will be gathered together.
The highlight of the exhibition
1.
The statue of Kuya, an important cultural property, was released in Tokyo for the first time in half a century.
The statue of Kuya Kamito is a realistic image of Kosho, the fourth son of Unkei, and is considered to be a masterpiece of a Buddhist priest. It expresses the awe of the superiors who have always been with the people of Ichii and the tradition that six Amida Buddhas appeared from their mouths. At Rokuharamitsuji, you can see it from the front, but at this exhibition, you can fully appreciate this masterpiece of Kamakura portrait sculpture.
2.
A treasure trove of Heian and Kamakura sculptures, the masterpieces of Rokuharamitsuji Temple are all in one place.
The area around Rokuharamitsuji Temple, which used to be a funeral procession called Toribeno, was also a place of worship. Despite being hit by fire many times, it has inherited the masterpieces of the Kamakura period from the Heian period, including the statue of the four heavenly kings, an important cultural property that has been passed down since its foundation. Through the numerous works collected in this exhibition, you can also enjoy the transition of Buddhist statues from the Heian period to the Kamakura period.
Exhibition work introduction
Here are some of the works exhibited in this exhibition.
Important Cultural Property Enmaou sitting statue
A judge who judges what he does during his lifetime.
One of the ten kings who judge the deeds of the dead and decide the world to be reborn next. The statues of the Ten Kings are rarely arranged, and are often represented by the Enma King. The background to this statue may be related to the fact that the area around Rokuharamitsuji was a funeral procession.
Important Cultural Property Denbei Kiyomori sitting statue
Is it Taira no Kiyomori? Is it another person?
A monk statue that is said to be Taira no Kiyomori. In the latter half of the 12th century, Taira's mansions were lined up in the land of Rokuhara. This is an image of a period not so long after the fall of the Taira clan.
Important Cultural Property Jizo Bodhisattva Statue
Heian sculpture with gorgeous coloring.
It is said in the "Collection of Old and New Stories" that the national unity government, which had fallen into hell, was revived with the help of the Jizo Bodhisattva, so that the statue was made and placed at Rokuharamitsuji Temple. This is considered to be the work that corresponds to the story.
Kuya Kamito Fan Club Official Supporter Mihotoke is here!
At the press release, Mihotoke, a comedian who is showing off "French impersonation" on SNS, will also appear!
Mihotoke, who has been longing for her as a "first love person" since she met Kuya in her second year of high school. What attracted you to the statue of Kuya Kamito to be exhibited this time? In response to the question
"It's like standing and walking. Many of the monk statues are sitting quietly, but Kuya is walking hard, revealing his muscular legs and worn-out footwear. Kuya quelled the plague in Kyoto, but he didn't do it with magical power, he walked to the people who actually suffered and chanted the Buddhist priest. I think that is very attractive. "
He talked about a part of that thought.
In addition, he talked about the Kuya Kamito standing statue figure produced in commemoration of this exhibition, and Mihotoke showed his unique "pushing angle" that the ball of the statue looks shining. "I want to keep it at my bedside," I was fascinated by its sophistication.
"Kuya's statue of Kamito tends to attract attention to its visuals, such as the Amida Buddha that comes out of his mouth, but his way of life, achievements, appearance, etc. have a lot of charm. I would like to share it with you! "
Mihotoke who stated his enthusiasm as an official supporter. It is said that information will be sent through SNS such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. every day, so please check this as well!
