“Sustainability” is the keyword for this holiday season Until December 25th (Monday)
As part of its sustainability activities, Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store is working with customers and local residents on initiatives called "Think GREEN" to think about the natural environment and "Think LOCAL" to think about solving local issues.
As part of this initiative, Daimaru Matsuzakaya stores nationwide will carry out holiday decoration projects that will help solve issues for the environment, local industry, and local people.
Matsuzaka Ueno Store Holiday decorations using recycled splash prevention sheets and acrylic boards
Location: 1st floor north exit show window, 1st floor cosmetics floor
We upcycled droplet prevention sheets and acrylic boards, which were scheduled to be disposed of as symbols of the coronavirus pandemic, to decorate windows and other storefronts. The message is “Let's be together, let's have fun together,'' as well as the wish for a sustainable and peaceful society.
Lease born from environmental conservation of Matsuzakaya Shizuoka store Oxys and Miho Matsubara
Location: North Building 1st floor Keyaki Street entrance
Shizuoka is blessed with the sea and mountains. We would like to cherish the hilly and mountainous area of Shizuoka City, known as the Oxygens, as well as the scenery of Mihonomatsubara and Mt. Fuji, both of which are registered as World Cultural Heritage Sites. In Miho, pine cones that are no longer needed during pine needle conservation activities are used to create giant wreath ornaments made from wood from Oxyz's thinning, to communicate local efforts.
A Kitayama cedar tree full of Kyoto-like features is now available on the roof of the Daimaru Kyoto store !
Location: 8th floor rooftop “Kotohotterasu”
By sharing the charm of Sugiyama Cedar, the national tree of Kyoto, we would like to contribute to regional development and the appropriate use of forest resources. The tree with two aspirations was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the local community. After the holiday season is over, I'm thinking about what it would be like to reborn this tree in a different form and create new value.
Daimaru Suma Store "ZERO TREE" made from waste materials and filled with warm feelings
Location: 1st to 4th floor, in front of each upward escalator (downward only on the 2nd floor)
Based on the Suma store's vision of coexistence with the local community, this year's holiday season we have implemented a project that will allow local residents to enjoy their visit and create memories for their families. This time, for the first time, we collaborated with a kindergarten in the ward to upcycle waste cardboard into tree ornaments. The children wrapped colorful threads around the ornaments to create heart-warming ornaments that cannot be found with commercially available products. The children had fun decorating it, and in 2023, the tree was completed, filled with the warm feelings unique to the end of the year.
Ornament making and decoration by children
Daimaru Shimonoseki Store Use building materials from Yamaguchi Prefecture that can no longer be used to create trees and wreaths!
Location: Main entrance, 2nd floor in front of the escalator, 3rd floor in front of the escalator
Forests occupy approximately 70% of Yamaguchi Prefecture's area. More than 40% of these are artificial forests created for timber production. Many of the artificial forests were planted all at once during the period of high growth, and now, half a century later, many trees have reached the appropriate age for felling. By maintaining the cycle of artificial timber (cutting → using → planting → growing), forestry will be revitalized, mountains will be better managed, and healthy forests can be maintained. From the lumber for construction after it was sawn, we re-sawn the parts that were no longer usable and made them into trees and wreaths.
Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin Store Circulation ~ circulation to the future (circulation to a shining future)
Location: Elgala Passage Square
Hakata Daimaru is engaged in activities that create resource circulation and more communication by working on upcycling waste and ocean plastics. This year, as an icon of "recycling," we created a "flower pot" using waste plastic and marine plastic waste, and used it to decorate the photo spot. We aim to create new forms of communication at events and around the people who receive them, to experience how things that would otherwise be discarded are reborn into something of value, and how resources can be used effectively.
