[400th Anniversary of the Imperial Relocation]

Ono Teruzaki Shrine was founded in Ueno Teruzaki in 852, the year of the second year of the Ninju era (the year of the reign of Lord Ono no Takamura), the deity enshrined there.

During the Edo period, the shrine was moved (transferred) from its original location in Ueno Teruzaki to its current location in Iriya when Kan'ei-ji Temple was built. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the relocation, and September 19th is an important festival day.

To mark this memorable year, we will hold the "400th Anniversary of the Enthronement Ceremony," and as a celebratory event, we will carry out "earthquake-proofing construction on the main hall" as an important preparation for the next 100 years.

As a simple means of donations for this celebration, we have prepared a special commemorative gift that will be used as an offering to the 400th anniversary of the relocation.
We also accept applications for mail delivery online on our special website .

We would appreciate your kind support and encouragement.

◆ Passing the baton to the next generation

For many years, the main hall of Ono Teruzaki Shrine has accepted the prayers and wishes of many people and maintained its role as a place of spiritual refuge.

Many people may think that a shrine is a place to make requests to the gods.

But more than that, it is also a place to quietly face yourself through God .

When you want to take a step forward, when you want to change your mood, taking a moment to quietly join your hands in prayer in the midst of your busy daily life will naturally calm your mind, help you return to your true self, and help you live a more peaceful life.

Ono Teruzaki Shrine has become a place that the people of this town can return to at any time because these small moments have been cherished and accumulated in their daily lives.

Now, in 2025, marking the 400th anniversary of the enthronement, earthquake-resistance reinforcement work will be carried out on the main hall.

We would like to pass this shrine on to the next generation so that it will remain a "hometown" for the people forever.

[Onoterusaki Shrine]

This shrine is located in Iriya, Taito Ward. It enshrines Ono no Takamura no Mikoto, a politician and multi-talented artist from the early Heian period. Founded in 852 in Ueno Teruzaki, it was moved to its current location during the Edo period with the construction of Kan'ei-ji Temple. The Fujizuka mound, built with lava brought from Mount Fuji and located within the shrine grounds, has been designated an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property. The public is welcome to visit the shrine during the annual festivals on June 30th and July 1st, which coincide with the Great Purification Ceremony and the opening of Mount Fuji. The main hall survived two major fires, the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo Air Raid, and the front section is believed to date back to the late Edo period.

The annual festival is held on the weekend closest to May 19th every year.

It is also known as a shrine associated with the late national actor Kiyoshi Atsumi. When Atsumi was still unknown, he prayed for a role in order to quit smoking. Shortly after, he was selected to play the lead role in the film series "Otoko wa Tsurai yo."
