National Museum of Nature and Science
The National Museum of Nature and Science (Science Expo) is one of the oldest museums in Japan, founded in the 10th year of the Meiji Era, and is the only national comprehensive science museum on the history of nature and science and technology. We are promoting three main activities (research and research, collection and storage of specimen materials, exhibition and learning support). There is the Japan Pavilion (designated as an important cultural property) completed in Showa 6 and the Earth Pavilion adjacent to it.
Pokemon Co., Ltd.
Established for the purpose of Pokemon brand management. Currently, we are developing "games", which is the starting point, "card games", "video works such as TV animations and movies", "goods", "tie-up promotion", "events", and "Pokemon Center, which is a directly managed store". , Producing all of them.
[Comprehensive supervision]
Daisuke Aiba (Senior Researcher / Curator, Mikasa City Museum)
Specializes in paleontology. His research theme is the evolution and classification of "abnormally wound ammonites" in the Cretaceous of the Mesozoic era, which have a mysterious shell. My favorite Pokemon is "Omanyte".
<Point ①>
Let's look for similarities and differences from the illustrations of paleontology and Pokemon!
<Point ②>
A full-scale skeleton imaginary model of "Kaseki Pokemon" is now available!
Let's compare the specimen of paleontology with the full-scale skeleton imaginary model of Pokemon!
<Point ③>
Let's compare the skeletons of Pokemon and paleontology!
The skeleton imagination of Pokemon is unveiled at the Pokemon Fossil Museum for the first time. What is the skeleton of Pokemon restored from Kaseki?
<Pokemon model exhibited for the first time from the National Science Museum>
Skeleton imaginary model of "Kabutops", "Tyrunt", "Arken", full-scale model of "Omastar", "Lileep", "Relicanth", "Fresh Kaseki", "Splash Kaseki", "Neko Kaseki" A full-scale model of "Kaseki of the lid" will appear for the first time at this venue.
<Special Exhibition "Pokemon Fossil Museum" Kahaku Tour>
The National Museum of Nature and Science has abundant permanent exhibitions (Japan Pavilion and Earth Pavilion) that display more than 25,000 specimens. The Kahaku Tour aims to encourage children who visit the Pokemon Fossil Museum to take advantage of the permanent exhibition and increase their interest in paleontology. Search for exhibits related to the specimens displayed in the special exhibition room of the "Pokemon Fossil Museum" based on the " Kahaku Tour " map . In the permanent exhibition room, there is an original commentary panel set up by our researchers, so you can enjoy observing the specimens.
For example, in the exhibition room of the "Pokemon Fossil Museum", you can see the whole body skeleton of Triceratops, which has only a skull, see multiple specimens of ammonite, and provide an experience to familiarize yourself with various specimens. This is the first patrol-related project related to holding the "Pokemon Fossil Museum".
・ Installation location and specimen of commentary panel, related Pokemon
Japan Pavilion 3rd floor Ammonite (Omnight and Omster), Earth Pavilion B1F Pakike Farosaurus (Cranidos and Rampardos), Kakuryu Trikeratops (Shieldon and Trideps), Tyrannosaurus (Tyruntrum and Tyrantrum), Founder Birds (Arken and Archeops), Earth Pavilion A total of 9 species have been selected, including Anhangera (Ptera), a wing dragon on the 2nd floor of the basement, and Tyrannosaurus (Tyrantrum) in the central hall for a limited time.
<Distribution>
A sticker will be distributed to the reserved visitors of the special exhibition "Pokemon Fossil Museum" when entering the exhibition room. In the permanent exhibition room, we will distribute an A5 size map that anyone can take home (using the original art for the National Museum of Nature and Science, where Gachigolas and excavated Pikachu pose as "Gaoh!"). * Stickers will be distributed only to those who have made a reservation in advance and entered the exhibition room.
<Cooperating researchers in this exhibition>
Yasunari Shigeta (Head of Environmental Change History Research Group, Faculty of Earth Sciences)
Specializes in paleontology and geology. Research on biodiversity and ecosystem restoration after mass extinction, in the fields of the three tatami mats of Russia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
We are conducting research on the biogeography and evolution of ammonites in the fields of the Cretaceous region of the Pacific Rim (Philippines, Japan, Russia, Canada, and the United States). In addition, as necessary, we incorporate various research methods such as research using modern organisms, geochemical research such as isotopes, and geophysical research such as paleomagnetic strata and absolute dating.
Takanobu Tsuihichi (Principal Investigator, Life Evolution History Research Group, Earth Science Research Department)
Comparative morphology of reptiles with a focus on the osteology of the fossil classifications and the anatomy of the muscular system of modern species. By combining information on soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, vasculature, etc.) obtained from modern organisms with evolutionary patterns of skeletal morphology conserved in fossils, anatomical including soft tissues in vertebrates, especially reptiles. I am interested in revealing the evolutionary sequence, especially the evolutionary changes in the neck.
The National Museum of Nature and Science, an independent administrative agency, collaborates with museums in multiple regions to create exhibitions that many people can enjoy, and is conducting a project to circulate them throughout Japan.
This exhibition was created by the original drafter, Mr. Daisuke Aiba of the Mikasa City Museum, as well as several museums including the museum and Pokemon Co., Ltd. The theme is "Kaseki" and "Kaseki Pokemon (*)" that appear in the popular game "Pokemon" series, and "Fossil" and "Paleozoic creatures" that can be found in our world. While experiencing the basic method of science called "observation / comparison", it is a feature that you can discover these shapes and ecology, common points and differences in fossil research in each world, and learn paleontology while having fun. am.
This exhibition has been touring all over Japan, starting with the exhibition at the Mikasa City Museum in Hokkaido in the summer of 2021.
* What is Kaseki Pokemon? In this exhibition, Pokemon restored from "Kaseki" in the world of Pokemon is called "Kaseki Pokemon".

・ About the production of the traveling exhibition
At the "Science Museum Innovation Center," which was established in the National Museum of Nature and Science in April 2019, the museum's management base will be strengthened and the local community will be strengthened by implementing initiatives that utilize the various resources of the museum. We are implementing a project with the aim of revitalizing science museums, including museums.
This traveling exhibition collaborates with museums in multiple regions, gathers the wisdom and skills of curators of each museum, and creates and tours exhibitions of scale and content that are difficult to produce with just one museum. By doing so, we aim to have you enjoy high-quality exhibitions all over Japan.
