The Tokyo University of the Arts Museum (Ueno Park, Tokyo) will host "Geidai-style Views of Art – Become an Art University Student This Summer -" from Friday, July 24th to Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026. This exhibition is the inaugural event of a series that will be held every summer for three years, from 2026 to 2028. In this exhibition, 12 "lectures" presented by current Tokyo University of the Arts faculty members will be presented as an "exhibition" within the museum. A luxurious and unprecedented viewing experience awaits, where you can enjoy diverse themes related to art, such as the history of art, practical skills, expression, appreciation, materials, and conservation and restoration, using artworks from the valuable collection of Tokyo University of the Arts as teaching materials, as if you were "listening" to a lecture.
Details have now been finalized for the "copying" demonstration by current Tokyo University of the Arts students, which will take place in the exhibition hall. Through how students currently studying art at Tokyo University of the Arts copy works by great predecessors such as Kuroda Seiki, let's consider the feelings and intentions of the painters hidden within the paintings. And, a variety of unique goods will be released! These include the exhibition's "official guidebook," a tote bag modeled after the pink paper bag "passing bag" given to those who pass the entrance exam to Tokyo University of the Arts, a matte can badge designed with the "emblem" of Tokyo University of the Arts, and an acrylic stand of the "gate" of Tokyo University of the Arts that can be displayed with your own acrylic stands. Furthermore, there will be mascot keychains of Asakura Fumio's "Hanging Cat," goods using Kuwagata Keisai's "Bird and Animal Sketches," a genius of sketches said to have been referenced by Katsushika Hokusai, and a large polar bear sculpture called "polka dots." This lineup of products featuring cute animals is perfect for everyday use.

In the limited-time basic painting workshop, "Learning from the Art Museum: Unraveling the Hands and Soul of Beauty Through Copying," current Tokyo University of the Arts students will demonstrate copying techniques in the exhibition room. By observing how students currently studying art at Tokyo University of the Arts copy works by great predecessors such as Kuroda Seiki, we will consider the feelings and intentions of the artists hidden within the paintings.
