To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the National Museum of Western Art's designation as a World Heritage Site, a mystery-solving event and art exhibition will be held throughout the city. Original merchandise will be given to those who answer all questions correctly.
The Ameyoko Central Shopping Street Promotion Association and the Ameyoko Plaza Shopping Street Cooperative (Taito Ward, Tokyo) will hold "UENO ART & MARKET" for 31 days from September 12th (Saturday) to October 12th (Monday/Holiday), 2026, throughout the Ameyoko shopping street area of Ueno and Okachimachi. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the National Museum of Western Art's World Heritage designation, and Ueno, home to many art museums, and Ueno, a shopping district—two areas that have been talked about separately despite being located at the same station—will be visited by visitors for a month to move between them on foot.

UENO ART & MARKET Main Visual
Connecting Ueno's art museum with Ueno's Ameyoko market
Ueno is a cultural hub with numerous art museums and museums, including the National Museum of Western Art, and also home to Ameyoko, a shopping street with approximately 400 shops. Although the two areas are only a few hundred meters apart, the flow of visitors tends to be separate. This event aims to connect these two areas into a single experience by combining a walk-through program where participants solve mysteries while exploring the town with art exhibitions held in shops along the shopping street. The venues are not specially constructed facilities, but rather shops in the shopping street that are operating on a regular basis.
Catrip Ueno's "Art-themed Mystery Solving!" (Free) – Walk around town with cats and solve puzzles.
During the event, a mystery-solving program will be held in Ueno Park, Ueno Station, and Ueno Ameyoko. Participants will travel with a mysterious cat from in front of the National Museum of Western Art to Ameyoko, exploring Ueno's art scene, solving riddles along the way, and enjoying trivia related to the art. This program is sure to be enjoyable for both art lovers and mystery-solving enthusiasts.
Participants can obtain a free puzzle booklet at a designated distribution location, register using the QR code provided, and then solve the puzzles while exploring the town.
