The Tokyo National Museum and the Cultural Property Utilization Center are in full repair of the important cultural property "Kosode Shiraayachi Akikusa Moyo" (owned by the Tokyo National Museum) owned by Korin Ogata. In doing so, we will start fundraising activities to solicit donations from individuals and companies.

<Fuyuki Kosode> is a thing that Korin Ogata, a painter of autumn grass, drew his own brush about 300 years ago.
It is said to have been painted for the wife of the Fuyuki family, a lumber wholesaler in Fukagawa, where Korin who came to Edo from Kyoto stayed.
Chrysanthemums, hagi, bellflowers, and awns are drawn on the silk of the white twill, with the shades of ink and the indigo (ai), yellow, and pink.
The style of capturing shapes without drawing outlines is an expression unique to Korin that is common to other works.

[Why is repair required? ]
Many cultural assets in Japan and Asia are made of fragile materials such as wood, paper, and silk, and deteriorate due to various factors such as changes in light, heat, temperature and humidity.
In order to pass on important cultural properties to the future, it is important to perform regular repairs and keep the cultural properties in good condition.
The Tokyo National Museum has continued to repair cultural assets by allocating a part of the budget to repair costs.
However, its budget is limited and many cultural properties are waiting for repairs.
<Fuyuki Kosode> also deteriorates due to aging, and stains and thread tears are seen.
In addition, traces of line stitching performed in the previous repair to reinforce the damaged fabric are conspicuous, and this has caused new damage.
For this reason, <Fuyuki Kosode> will be fully repaired in about two years from FY2020.
The Tokyo National Museum and the Cultural Property Utilization Center will collect donations from many people for the <Fuyuki Kosode> repair project, and will cover the repair costs.
The Tokyo National Museum and the Cultural Property Utilization Center aim to provide a society where many people participate in activities to provide cultural opportunities, which are the treasures of mankind, to the next generation by providing all people with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with cultural properties.
As part of this activity, this project is conducted to pass on valuable cultural assets to the next generation from many people, individuals and companies / organizations.

(3) Participate in lectures and hands-on events
・ We will hold a talk show by researchers and a “kimono gathering” to enjoy dinner at the restaurant in the hotel.

(4) Purchase goods
・ In collaboration with companies, we plan to develop and sell original goods with the motif of <Fuyuki Kosode>.
We will use a portion of the product sales for donations. (Details will be announced on our website later.)
・ We will sell <Fuyuki Kosode> related products at the Tokyo National Museum Museum Shop.
Part of the proceeds will be used for donations. (Scheduled to start mid February)
◆ About <Winter Kosode>
<Fuyuki Kosode> is said to have been painted for the wife of the Fuyuki family, the first lumber wholesaler in Fukagawa who first boarded in 1709, when Korin Ogata went to Edo and tried to get a job as an artist. ｡
Therefore, it is called <Fuyuki Kosode>.
Korin's birthplace was originally a garage store called Kari-ganeya, which has continued since the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
The story of Ukiyo Soko "Amorous Sentences" tells that Korin drew a picture of a pine with sumi-e on a small sleeve of a white satin.
At that time, wearing small sleeves painted by renowned painters was a trend among rich merchant women.
There are some Kosodes with Korin's signatures (Rakkan), but those that come in the form of kimono are very rare.
Unfortunately, there is no Korin's signature in Kosode, but it is also considered Korin's autograph, as it is very similar to Korin's favorite drawing of autumn grass when he went down to Edo.
The shade of indigo (ai) is transparent, and the flower of the bellflower spreads on the upper body, and the lower part of the waist is drawn with Susukino, a flower of chrysanthemum and hagi.
The composition of the small-sleeved pattern that changes the pattern at the waist in this way is a fashion at the time when the band width spreads to 20 cm.
