On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, a new art space of over 240 m2 will be created on the 7th floor of the Matsuzakaya Ueno store main building.
Due to the spread of the new coronavirus infectious disease, the role of "art" has changed significantly as a means of moisturizing the mind and life, and the customer base who finds value there is expanding. The over-the-counter sales of art-related products at the Matsuzakaya Ueno store in the first half of 2009 (March to August) increased significantly by about 81% compared to the first half of 2019 before the spread of infectious diseases, indicating a growing interest. On the other hand, it is also true that there is a high threshold, such as where to buy it, although I am interested in it, but somehow it is difficult to enter the gallery.
Therefore, the Matsuzakaya Ueno store will double the area of the art development space as a space with a sense of openness, based on the concept of " MEETS ART-a place that connects people and art ". In addition to relocating and expanding the existing art gallery , we will propose works of a wider variety of genres and price ranges by establishing an art gallery next to the art gallery and an art space with a rental space function. We aim to be a base where everyone, from those who have never had a connection with art to core art fans, can easily enjoy art. In addition, we will focus on training young artists by establishing an art space with a rental gallery function that anyone can display their works.

"Tokyo University of the Arts 100 Doro Exhibition"
The "100-sheet drawing" is the first to be imposed on first-year students in the design department of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, who have just entered the university. This task, which focuses on observation and pursues expression while exploring themes, is an important initiative that will form the basis of subsequent production activities. To commemorate the reopening of the Matsuzakaya Ueno store's art gallery, we will exhibit more than 400 works carefully selected from 4,500 works of 45 people x 100 drawings.
